It is neither male or female but for its role in creation it is referred to as male. He existed before the Big Bang and all existence. In his realm outside of what is known the All Dark stands the Pillar of Void and within it he sits upon the Throne of End. His Pillar spilled the Empty into Oa's Fires in an attempt to extinguish the light, but they were equal in measure and from the chaotic maelstrom of their union birth The Great Twins.
